Find out why so many businesses choose to integrate with DPD using Shipster

The prolific courier DPD deliver around 5.3 million packages across the globe daily; living up to their claim of being ‘Your Delivery Experts’. They specialise in shipping sorter compatible parcels (under 31.5kg) making them an excellent courier option for most retail businesses. An aspect of DPD that separates it from the crowd is it has over 140 different service options making its shipping highly customisable. This number includes domestic and international services across DPD and DPD Local.

An advantage of Shipping with DPD through Shipster is the integration is pre-approved! Unlike most couriers that require a process of approval for each new customer, DPD allows us to skip this making the set up particularly fast.

How does the DPD integration work?

As part of the Shipster set up process, we write ‘rules’ which map certain features of your orders to trigger one of the many DPD shipping services depending on your shipping needs. For example, if an express order is being sent to the Channel Islands, it may be quicker to send it on a ‘By Air’ service than a standard domestic one. Shipster then sends the parcel information to DPD and generates a shipping label for the correct service.

Create rules from dozens of conditions and commands

Example Shipping Rules

Date & Time

Create shipping rules based on the date and time of order or processing. Useful when managing next-day deliveries. Can use current day, time or time range e.g. 2 pm - 5 pm.

Shipping Upgrade

Automate delivery upgrades and downgrades such as when a customer pays extra for a quicker delivery service. Or during a free delivery promotion, you may wish to send orders on a slower but cheaper service to save money.

Currency & Customs

When shipping internationally, choose to convert the sale price information into the desired currency. These conversions will be reflected on your shipping documents such as CN22s, streamlining the process of calculating customs charges at foreign borders.

Partial Dispatches

If only a portion of an order is ready to ship, include a pop-up option to ship the partial despatch separately. This ensures certain items do not delay the delivery of the whole order.

Promotions

Map the sale of certain items or promotional deals to print relevant marketing documents to be included in the package. Alternatively, choose to trigger a pop-up in Shipster instructing warehouse staff to pack pre-printed material with certain orders or during marketing campaigns.

Block Address

Automatically block shipment to certain postcodes or countries. Useful in the case of fraudulent orders or if shipping to a certain location is too expensive/complicated.

Commonly Asked Questions about our DPD Integration

DPD Local used to be called Interlink Express and was bought by DPDgroup in 2000. In 2017 it was renamed DPD Local for the sake of greater brand consistency. DPD Local specialises in UK deliveries for customers shipping in smaller volumes. It is fully unified with DPD’s systems, with both couriers using the same API.

Additional rule changes after your DPD integration is set up are absolutely free as this service is included in your monthly support charge. Shipster is designed to adapt as your business grows and changes, and be flexible to each client’s fluctuating shipping needs.

Setup time depends if you are a new or current customer. DPD is one of the quickest couriers to integrate with because our integration is pre-approved with DPD but can still take up to 3-4 weeks to fully set up. This process will be significantly shorter for current Shipster users.

If a customer has selected DPD shipping on your sales platform, or if a DPD shipping rule is triggered in Shipster by a certain attribute of an order e.g. product type, weight, destination etc. Shipster will create and print the appropriate DPD shipping label to be affixed to the parcel. Shipster also books the shipment directly with DPD and obtains the tracking information which is automatically sent back to your warehouse management software.

We charge a flat fee for the initial installation of the software and setup of your shipping rules. After this, you will only ever pay a monthly fee for support based on your number of licenses, not per label. You can get exact pricing with our pricing calculator. If you are an existing Shipster customer, adding a DPD integration to your setup is included in this monthly fee so is no extra charge if you want to add the service.

If you have any technical questions about, or problems using Shipster’s DPD integration, we have a dedicated support team at your disposal. Our email and phone support service operates between 10am-5pm Monday to Friday, and most issues are resolved the same day they are logged. We are even happy to contact DPD on your behalf if necessary.

The support from Oddsphere for Shipster is second to none. During the implementation of our new warehouse management system including despatch, Shipster was the best-supported element. The service integrates well into all of our carriers and saves a huge amount of time compared to manual entry. The pricing structure of Shipster means the more we send, the more we save which works well for us as a small to medium size business user. Once it’s set up ongoing costs are minimal instead of being tied to a price per parcel. Overall very happy with the service we have received so far.

Gareth O'Rourke, Head of E-Commerce

"We have been using Shipster for 18 months and it has literally transformed our warehouse department. We have managed to fully integrate with our three main couriers and significantly improve the speed, efficiency and accuracy at which the warehouse team are able to push parcels out of the building. We have managed to do this with the same number in our despatch team as what we had 18 months ago, even though parcel volumes have gone from 70,000 to 120,000 parcels."
